The Washington Redskins have traded a sixth-round 2016 draft pick in exchange for two-time Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson. The Bucs also sent a 2016 seventh-round draft pick to the Redskins.

The Bucs announced the news on Friday.

The Redskins needed to fill their safety positions after losing Ryan Clark to retirement. Other safety, Brandon Meriweather is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Goldson has ties to the Redskins. When Goldson was selected in the fourth round of the 2007 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, current Redskins general manager, Scot McCloughan was on the staff. After reaching the Pro Bowl with the 49ers in 2011 and 2012, Goldson signed with the Bucs for the 2013 season.

His contract was worth $41 million over five years. The Bucs will reportedly save $4 million in salary-cap space but are responsible for paying the $4 million guarantee.

During his time in Tampa bay, Goldson did not live up to his expectations. In his first season with the Bucs, Goldson had two one-game suspensions for helmet-to-helmet hits.

In his two years with the Bucs, he had 151 tackles and one interception. In 2014, he finished with 81 combined tackles.

Throughout his career, Goldson has amassed a total of 499 combined tackles, six forced fumbles and 15 interceptions.
