The dead bodies of two young children were discovered in a freezer in Detroit on Tuesday morning, and police have arrested the victims' mother in connection with the case, according to multiple reports.

A bailiff was performing an eviction at a home on the east side of the city about 10:45 a.m. when he discovered the body of a girl in a freezer, Detroit Police said in a statement.

An autopsy revealed the bodies were of a boy and girl, ages 11 and 15, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"I'm really sickened now to find out that it was babies," court officer Lee Gordon tells the Free Press. "It's not an easy pill to swallow."

Their bodies were found inside a bag in the freezer. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The report said the bodies appear to have been frozen for "some time." Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt said it's possible they had been there for more than a year.

Officer Dan Robinson, a Detroit police spokesman, told the Los Angeles Times that the bodies were recovered from a "deep freezer," which he described as large and almost "like a chest." He would not confirm the victims' ages, describing them only as "juveniles."

The victims mother, Mitchelle Blair, 35, has been arrested in connection with the crime. WJBK reported that police found the mother in a neighboring apartment.

Meanwhile, her two other children, aged 11 and 17, were found at a neighbor's home and placed in protective custody.

According to WXYZ Channel 7, a police source says the mother has confessed to strangling her son in May 2012, then torturing and killing her daughter nine months later.

Neighbors tell the Free Press they had not seen the children in more than a year.

"I been staying down here my whole life, and I never saw them outside, to the point where I thought that they actually moved out," said Rocky Ashford, 18, who lives in a neighboring town home.
