In an effort to get high, teenagers have resorted to applying Burt's Bees Beeswax lip balm on their eyelids, kicking off a new viral trend called 'beezin'.

Those who have tried it say the peppermint oil contained in the balm produces a tingling and burning sensation. This then goes on to enhance the experience of being high or drunk.

Others have attributed the 'beezin' way as means to help keep them alert.

College student Meredith Stocks has been highly critical of the trend saying, "I think it's crazy. I mean who would of thought that people would be doing that?"

A lot of users feel the lip balm is safe since it is 100 percent natural.

Health experts aren't impressed and have warned that 'beezin' could lead to redness, inflammation or even swelling of the eyes.

Dr Mary Romano of the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, points out to the fact that since there is no active ingredient in the lip balm that can actually make people high.

She said, "Getting high means you create an effect on your brain where dopamine is released, which creates a pleasurable experience feeling. That's what happens when you use drugs and that's why they become addictive, so you're absolutely not getting high."

Dr Romano also urges parents to keep a close eye on their children and to keep a lookout on the latest viral trends to ensure that children don't try them. She also recommended that the lip balm only be used for what it is intended for.
