To win over Android users and ramp its sales, Apple is set to launch its first trade-in programmes for Android phones.

The trade-in will allow Android users to give up their devices at Apple retail stores and get gift cards in return which can be used to purchase iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The system is similar to what was launched in 2013 to motivate Apple iPhone users to upgrade to newer versions, reports 9to5mac.

According to Engadget non-iPhone users including Android and Blackberry users can approach retailers and get their devices evaluated. The retail staff will transfer contacts between phones but other data will have to be backed up by users. Staff is currently being trained by the company to perform when the trade-in is launched. Trade-ins in the past were launched in the US and later expanded to Canada, Australia and Europe.

Bloomberg reported that Apple's move could affect Samsung Galaxy S6 sales beginning next month as Galaxy S5 users may opt for iPhone 6 and not Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, reports Bloomberg.

Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have posted record sales with Apple selling 74.5 million units in the last three months of 2014, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 46 percent. The soaring numbers have helped Apple establish dominance over Android in the US.
