NASA will collaborate with Osterhout Design Group (ODG) to develop Smart Glasses for astronauts, according to reports. These smart glasses will be used by astronauts in space to help better orient them to their new environment.

"NASA and ODG will seek to advance technology and today's announcement is a vote of confidence in the power, promise, and possibility of head worn augmented reality technology," read the report detailing the work.

Reportedly testing of smart glasses will begin later this year. "The NASA engineering teams that are working to integrate the software into the glasses will start testing them in an undersea lab that simulates space flight later this year."

According to the report, the ODG glasses will help provide astronauts with line of sight check lists, guided support via telepresence, and the ability to overlay digital markers on machinery or equipment while keeping the user's eyes and hands focused on their task, Pioneer News noted.
