Ending months of speculation, Apple on Tuesday revealed the successor to its MacBook Air, the MacBook.

According to CNET, 12-inch MacBook weighs lesser than MacBook Air at just two pounds. Thanks to the component size-reduction, Apple has been able to make a device compact and powerful. As was rumored, the new MacBook is powered by the new Intel Core M processor that allowed for a slim 13.1 mm-thick design. The device was unveiled in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Other notable features include an upgraded trackpad featuring Force Touch, a new technology that senses intensity of click to perform different actions.

Most notably, the new MacBook features Retina Display. The 12-inch screen is capable of 3.3 million pixel resolution. Retina Display first featured on iPhone 4 and was later adopted in MacBooks. The new iMac computer that was showcased last October also features a 5K Retina Display. A new USB C port that is reversible is noteworthy.

Vox attributed MacBook's slimness to improvements in chip fabrication and design. Apple has also been able to ramp up battery function enabling the new MacBook to operate nine hours on a charge owing to size reduction.

The MacBook comes with a price tag of $ 1,299. It will begin shipping April 10. Features at a glance: turbo boost 1.1 GHz Intel Dual Core M processor, 8 GB memory, 256 GB flash storage. A higher variant costing $ 1,599 features 1.2 GHz turbo boost processor and 512 GB storage.
