Pebble has announced a new premium smartwatch, with a 10-day battery-life. The smartwatch is expected to go head-to-head with yet to be launched Apple Watch.

The new smartwatch, Pebble Time Steel, is made from a stainless steel with a color e-paper display and a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass lens.

The new smartwatch has a built-in microphone for quick voice replies and notes and is water resistant as well. The smartwatch is powered by Pebble's new timeline interface, which organizes information chronologically.

Pebble Time Steel is compatible with Phone and Android smartphones, and comes in three styles - silver, black, and gold - and the choice of a leather band or stainless steel strap, The Telegraph reported.

The new Time Steel Costs $250 for Kickstarter backers and it will go on retail for $299.

"In order to add a heart rate monitor or GPS directly into a smartwatch, you have to make serious compromises on design and battery life. And it's likely that if you buy a watch with a certain sensor today, it will be out of date within 12 months," said Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky.

"We are creating an open platform that will enable anyone to build smartstraps for Pebble watches. For example, imagine a smartstrap with a GPS chip or a heart rate monitor, that transforms Pebble Time into a high-performance fitness watch; or a strap with a pollution sensor inside, that keeps track of the environment around you; or a strap with an extra battery that extends the battery life of Pebble Time past 7 days. We can't wait to see what people develop; the opportunities are endless."

Launched on Kickstarter, few weeks ago, the company has already raised over $12m.
