Jason Momoa, the 35-year-old actor from Hawaii, has opened up about his upcoming role as the underrated superhero, Aquaman. The actor, known for his roles in "Baywatch" and "Games of Thrones," told Entertainment Weekly that he was surprised at how early director Zach Snyder decided to release the picture of Aquaman.

"That was a shocker for sure. It was supposed to be a surprise in 2016," Momoa said in regards to the release of the Aquaman picture. "Zack Snyder called me up and said, 'I'm posting this picture now.' He's just a genius and I love him to death. He sent it over and we're in the middle of the editing suite for the thing I'm doing right now, and we all freaked out, man. It was so amazing to see it come out.

When asked whether or not fans will see him in the highly anticipated movie, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Momoa stated that "it's a Batman and Superman movie, it is not my movie," before adding that he was excited to see the two superheroes in one movie.

Momoa also discussed the reinvention of Aquaman, who is often forgotten and mocked. The actor stated that Snyder's plans for Aquaman will hopefully change how fans view him.

"The whole mythology of Aquaman is pretty amazing. There's so many things to tell, and there's a whole backstory that's just amazing. There's a lot of surprises coming. I think, yeah, he's been cast aside. But, um [laughs] times are going to change now, buddy," Momoa said. "What's great about this is Zack, man. We don't want to just reinvent it, but he's a got a whole idea of what Aquaman should be and I'm really honored to be playing it. I'm excited for the world to see it."

A solo Aquaman movie was announced for 2018. Before fans get to see Momoa as the underwater hero, they will get a sneak peak into his character in the Justice League, which is scheduled to come out in 2017. Momoa also revealed that they have not done much filming for the Justice League.

"No, we haven't done too much on the action yet. You know, Justice League is still quite a ways away. But I'm looking forward to it. Henry's [Cavill] a sweetheart, Ben [Affleck] is a badass, so I'm really looking forward to when we all shoot Justice League," he said.

In the meantime, fans are still waiting for the "Batman v Superman" trailer to drop.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 25, 2016.
