Taylor Swift had a new surprise on Monday when the leading British trade group IFPI (International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry) proclaimed her as Global Recording Artist Of The Year.

Swift is said to be at the rehearsals for the BRIT Awards at London's O2 when Frances Moore CEO of global music organization IFPI personally presented the trophy to the 1989 songstress, Daily Mail said.

The surprise caught the singer unaware of the situation with her only wearing casual navy jumper and black jeans and her usual sleek, straight hair done in an everyday look.

According to Billboard, the trade agency based the results on physical sales, downloads and streaming worldwide particularly on the staggering sales of her 1989 album said to have reached 8.6 million copies worldwide,

It has also stayed for 11 nonconsecutive weeks in the number one spot in the Billboard 200 chart with its two top tracks, "Blank Space" and "Shake It Off."

Next to Taylor Swift is One Direction tailing behind at the No. 2 spot this year with their album Four released on November which has been included in the Billboard 200.

Ed Sheeran landed on the third spot with its X album proclaimed to have gain extreme fame in Spotify.

Other artists who were included in the top 10 included Coldplay, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Sam Smith, Katy Perry and Beyonce.

Meanwhile, reports on Yahoo News said that the soundtrack of the worldwide phenomenon "Frozen" is also a strong competitor with Taylor Swift's spot. However, IFPI is said to have favored songs recorded by an individual artist and not by a collaboration of talents.

Aside from being a top-ranking music artist in the US, Taylor Swift is also widely famous in Germany, Japan and Britain.
