A tweet is all it takes to set tongues waging. And Kathy Bates' playful tweet has done just that.

The accomplished actress's toying response to an eager fan's query about her casting in the next season of FX's American Horror Story has sent rumor mills working overtime, speculating she may be part of the next season, reports GameNGuide.

"Time will tell! Stay tuned #AHS fans," the actress said when asked if she will be part of AHS's season 5.

Bates' response is being viewed as non-confirmatory yet devoid of denial as it is likely that is unaware about her role. She has said in the past that she would like to return to the show. Given that series' creator Ryan Murphy does not share cast details even with actors, it is possible that Bates is unaware of her casting but is in the reckoning.

Bates' reappearance in season 5 could be a boon for the show which saw Jessica Lange exit. Bates was cast as the bearded lady in Ethel Darling in season 4. If she returns, she could probably be cast as victim of radiological testing, IB Times reports.

The fifth season could be about Operation Top Hat, a 1950s initiative of the US Army which saw chemical weapons testing on humans. Bates has been associated with AHS since season 3, 'Coven'.
