After introducing its own version of Android for its One smartphone earlier this month, OnePlus is going to release its own ROM which can be installed on third-party Android devices.

The new ROM, dubbed 'Oxygen' will release on February 12 and is being described as "open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features."

"We've spent a lot of time thinking about what this ROM means to us and our fans. We realized that, like everything we do, our true goal is to make the product that we ourselves would want to use-to make great technology more accessible for everyone," OnePlus wrote in a post.

Hints of OnePlus and CynogenMod split was evident from the interview of CynogenMod founder Steve Kondik who had said: "while OnePlus is a startup just like them, it's not likely that the 'long-term visions' of the two companies will converge. He went on to confirm that OnePlus would get the Android Lollipop update this month though he cautioned, "I have no idea what the future holds beyond that."

Xiaomi has been the first major company to develop both smartphones and its own operating system, and the success of the company has triggered a number of firms, including OnePlus to follow the similar path.
