Sam Smith has had such an epic year with his record scoring the number one spot across the world. However, the British crooner has said that if he wins the Grammy for Album of the Year, he would give it away to Beyonce.

Sam Smith and Beyonce are both up for six nominations each at the Grammy's, with the Sam Smith picking up nods for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist while his album In The Lonely Hour, which has gone multi-platinum on both sides of the Atlantic since its release last May, goes up against Beyonce's self-titled fifth record for the Album of the Year.

"She deserves it way more than I do," Sam said in an interview in the latest edition of Rolling Stone. "I'd be embarrassed if I got it over her. If I got it, I'd give it to her." We'll see about that if his name's read out on the night.

Sam Smith is tied with the "Drunk in Love" singer for six Grammy nominations each, including being nominated for Song of the Year for "Stay With Me." The song sold more than 3.5 million tracks.

The hit song "Stay With Me" made headlines this week after singer Tom Petty was awarded a song credit for its similarities to his 1989 hit "Won't Back Down."

"Let me say I have never had any hard feelings toward Sam. All my years of songwriting have shown me these things can happen. Most times you catch it before it gets out the studio door but in this case it got by," Petty said in a statement.

"Sam's people were very understanding of our predicament and we easily came to an agreement. The word lawsuit was never even said and was never my intention. And no more was to be said about it.

"How it got out to the press is beyond Sam or myself. Sam did the right thing and I have thought no more about this. A musical accident no more no less," he continued.

"I wish Sam all the best for his ongoing career," Petty said. "Peace and love to all."
