Netflix "The Crown" ended its first season with Queen Elizabeth II dealing with problems in the affairs of the government, particularly a tryst that led to Anthony Eden taking over the Prime Minister position following the resignation of Winston Churchill. "The Crown" Netflix series depicts Queen Elizabeth's relationship with the men in the Government, and it wasn't all hearts.

Who Was Anthony Eden?

A scene of one of the episodes in "The Crown" depicted Queen Elizabeth scolding Anthony Eden, Winston Churchill, and the Foreign Secretary for not telling her that neither of them is able to govern the nation for a certain period of time. In history, this holds true as Anthony Eden had an abdominal surgery because of an infection, and Winston Churchill suffered from a stroke which he had to recover, leaving the country with no leader.

The season one finale of "The Crown" Netflix series, Anthony Eden successfully coerced Winston Churchill to step down as Prime Minister, leaving him as the replacement. Eden also had an altercation with the Egyptian President Nasser warning of the Suez crisis leading to Eden's resignation 18 months after being appointed to office, causing quite a stir in UK's political society.

The first season of "The Crown" shows Queen Elizabeth II convincing Anthony Eden to allow his sister Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend to marry. The Queen was expecting him to rally behind the couple as he was also a divorcee. In real life, Anthony Eden divorced his first wife, mother of three children, and married Clarissa, Winston Churchill's niece until his death in 1977.

Reports say that "The Crown" season 2 will be focusing on the conflict between the British and French canal in Egypt. The upcoming season will also be focusing on Queen Elizabeth II's relationship with Anthony Eden which is known to have been quite tense.
