“Hunter X Hunter” is Shueisha’s bestselling manga. By February 2013, it had sold over 65 million copies. Besides that, in 1999 it was adapted into 62 episode anime series and two related theatrical films in 2013. The series’ creator Yoshihiro Togashi has had some serious health issues lately, which lead to a two year hiatus of the manga which has posed some big problems to the creation of supplemental episodes to the new installment of the anime.

Fab Newz reports that it may be possible for Togashi to be released from active duty on the series.
Even though previous times he has suffered similar health issues and has come back to writing, the two year hiatus is a little more than what the publisher can afford. After all, even manga is a business and these are missed profit opportunities.

Some more light on the matter is shed by Christian Today. They report that the manga publisher Shueisha may turn to outside help for the development of the series. One of their possible moves is drawing Tokyo Ghoul creator Sui Ishida into the project. Ishida himself is a fan of the series, so it could be interesting to see his take on the series and its development. Another possible move is to get Naoko Takeuchi, Togeshi’s wife, to work on the series. She is known for creating the “Sailor Moon” best-selling manga and has helped her husband on his work before.

A more positive outlook on the situation comes from Jobs and Hire. According to them, Yoshihiro Togashi has been feeling better lately and is ready to soon sit before the drawing board. First sign of his possible comeback is an illustration of his “Hunter x Hunter” characters, which he made especially for a festival. Another is that a new story arc has been revealed for the series and their further development. The newer chapters will focus on Gin, the father of Gon.

If things go by plan, new releases of “Hunter x Hunter” should be available through 2017.
