'Black Mirror' is one of Netflix's new original series that is like the alternate reality of our modern world. While the series aims to entertain, the series comes out as uncomfortable almost-real life situations that highlights how humans have become obsessed with technology.

'Black Mirror' presents near-reality episodes that show how human achievement in technology can bite us in the arse. It is a "gripping fiction" that depicts how humans could become narrow-minded in terms of the future. While technology is not black-or-white, there are grey areas to it that people oftentimes forget. The third season, in particular, highlights humanity's desires and the weaknesses that is brought about. The episodes in the third season of 'Black Mirror' Series is eerily almost real.

Nosedive episode spoilers

In the "Nosedive" episode, the first in 'Black Mirror' Series Season 3, the world revolves around "social credit." Social status is earned by citizen's ratings of individuals, and each person has a retina lens that provides information about the other people they meet. This episode is eerily similar to the "social credit" score system that will be implemented by 8 companies come 2020.

"Black Mirror's"  'Shut Up and Dance' episode is about a group of hackers who install viruses on laptops that are used to obtain information used for blackmail. The episode is freakishly similar to the real-life hackers who take over webcams, leak private videos and photos unbeknownst to the owners, and attack IoT (Internet of Things) in general.

The 'Men Against Fire' of "Black Mirror" Series shows an alternate reality where soldiers are given experiences that make war more provided bearable. In the series, soldiers are presented with another "alternate reality" within the series that makes them more obliging. The episode is bizarrely close to reality as many of today's advancements are in the military area. In fact, Business Insider reports that a research at Stanford is exploring face-swapping technology, and Snapchat is already allowing users to alter their faces.

Indeed, "Black Mirror" Series is the modern-day Twilight Zone. The technology and circumstances given in the series really feel close to home.
