After unveiling its new solar power roofs, the company also introduced Powerwall version 2.0 home battery. It is one of the product pitches that were unveiled in Tesla's event. The new and improved Powerwall 2.0 has twice the energy spec, bringing the newer model from 13.5 kWh to 6.4 kWh. The peak power spec also doubled, from 3.2 kW to 7 kW. Tesla enhanced Powerwall 2.0 with its integrated inverter which is the first of its class in the industry. Tesla also took off the curved features that increased product volume which made handling difficult.

Tesla's new Powerwall 2.0 is a game-changer in the industry. The price point for double the power specs, not to mention the new integrated inverter, could mean bad news for the growing competitors in the home energy storage field. The Powerwall 2.0 features 14 kWh energy capacity, with price point $5,500USD inclusive of inverter, bringing the cost per kWh to only $393USD.

Other home batteries that compete with Tesla's Powerwall 2.0 are:

LG Chem RESU

LG Chem RESU has a 6.5 kWh energy capacity that costs around $4,000USD. Battery pack doesn't include inverter which costs an additional fee of approximately $2,000USD, bringing the cost per kWh to about $923USD.

SonnenBatterie Eco Compact

SonnenBatterie eco compact includes 4 kWh battery capacity costing around $5,950USD, which includes inverter DC-DC or DC-AC, bringing the cost per kWh to $1,488USD.

Start-up Orison

Start-up Orison, a lighter home battery pack, includes 2.2 kWh energy capacity which costs around $1,600USD, bringing the cost per kWh to $727USD. Unlike Powerwall 2.0, no trained electrician is required to install the power pack.

Sunverge

Sunverge has multiple power packs that range between 6 kWh to 23 kWh energy capacity. The battery costs around $8,000 to $20,000 depending on the size.

Tesla is now accepting orders for Powerwall 2.0 in its online store. Considering the line of home battery packs in the industry, Tesla's newest offering is a game-changer with its "More with less" spiel.
