"The Girl on the Train" was recently shown in movie theaters. The audience loved Emily Blunt in the movie but it was not enough reason for critics to stop bashing it.

About "The Girl on the Train"

The movie tells the story of Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt) who recently divorced her husband Tom (Justin Theroux). The separation traumatized her so much that she wonders if she will ever have a life like the couple she passes during her daily train travel. Unfortunately, she witnessed something horrifying and unwittingly gets involved. The movie is based on a book with the same title and written by Paula Hawkins.

"The Girl on the Train" Audience And Critics Reaction

The Rotten Tomato reported that around 57 percent of the movie audience like the movie. Most of them however, liked it because of Emily Blunt, the lead actress in the movie. Critics also praised the actress for her performance in the film. Unfortunately, most of the critics and many of the audience thought that her performance is not enough to save the "The Girl on the Train".

"The Girl on the Train" Ticket Sales Performance

"The Girl on the Train" made almost $25 million during its first weekend, according to USA Today. However, it made less money than "Gone Girl" which earned more than $37 million in its first day around two years ago.

The two are usually compared to each other due to the similarity of their plots. "Gone Girl" ultimately made more than $167 million. There is a possibility however slim, that "The Girl on the Train" can matched or even surpass that amount.

A number of movie observers blamed Hurricane Matthew and the current glut of adult dramas as the reason behind the low ticket sales for "The Girl on the Train". Fortunately, its production cost is well below $50 million.
