Harambe VS Capcom is Real, the Meme Stays Strong

The internet's favorite gorilla and meme, Harambe, gets to star in his own PC video game. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's a fighting game crossover with Capcom. Yes, you get to see Harambe duke it out with Ryu, Ken, and others.

As if the game itself is not enough, there's even plot to go with it. You know the tragedy that kickstarted his induction to internet fame? All faked. Well, according to the game it is. As one 'Good Samaritan' informs him of a nefarious plot, Harambe responds, "Good lookin' out fam! I'll use my psycho powers to convince the media to report that I'm dead, that should buy me some time to fix this!"

Pursued for his psychic powers, Harambe then uses the interim given by his meticulously planned fake death to train for the coming darkness. And it just so happens that he needs Ryu's help for it. But he has to beat him in a fight, first. Mm. Fighting games. Speaking of, you can get this particular one here.

At 21 characters, the game boasts a fair number of fighters to control, including Evil Ken, Urien, and Hugo. Polygon also notes that the title song is by Lex Lingo and Klopfenpop.

The 17-year old gorilla seems to still be going strong after all this time, and it's somewhat awe-inspiring and more than a little intriguing to settle down and wonder just why his story is so enduring over the internet. The internet sure is an interesting place.

That said, the meme doesn't seem to show any signs of getting old, especially with what can probably be described as a cult following that keeps it in prominence. Enough to have merchandise of its own, at the very least.

All said and done, the meme itself lives on with so many permutations it blurs the line of relevance. But, to stress it again, the internet sure is an interesting place. For even a fighting game or tribute to come off a meme, well, anything's possible with enough time and effort.
