Sony seems relatively busy in making a dent into the highly competitive smartphone industry by rolling out its latest slew of flagship devices of the Xperia X series. As a viable successor to the relatively successful Xperia Z lineup, the Japanese electronics giant introduced the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance earlier this year to fill the void. Even more recently is the release of Xperia XA Ultra- the ultimate smartphone for selfie addicts.

Display-wise, the Xperia XA Ultra edge-to-edge curved design offers a credible alternative phablet experience to both iPhone's flagship and the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 gadgets. Its 6-inch screen has pixel density of 300ppi along with still respectable 1920×1080 resolution so it remains a lovely and pretty decent smartphone to own.

But the mid-range smartphone's greatest selling point is its focus on selfie-obsessed users boasting an incredibly impressive 16 megapixel front camera sensor and a 21 megapixel rear sensor. This trumps all other selfie-oriented smartphones in the market today such as the Asus Zenfone Selfie, Oppo F1 Selfie, and HTC Desire Eye and so on, Tech News reported.

Additionally, the front camera is also armed with a 'gesture control' feature which enables a user to remotely start a shutter timer by waving the hand as mentioned in a report by ARS Technica. Apart from its selfie-designed cameras, the wide borderless screened phone can reportedly stay up to two days on a single battery charge, a grand claim for a mobile handset with 2,700 mAh battery. The device also comes with a quick charger that can inject the phone with 5.5 hours battery life with just 10 minutes plugging in to the power source.

Under the hood is the same Mediatek chipset found in Xperia XA handset, 3GB of RAM, and expandable base storage offering of 16GB. Since the phone is midway between an upper tier and mid-range smartphone, it lacks waterproofing and USB-C port, CNET reported.

The XA Ultra device will be released in three color renditions, namely, graphite black, white and lime gold. As of press time, Sony has not released any official word yet on the gadget's availability, release date, and pricing although the electronics company previously indicated a worldwide launch for the device.
