Beyonce and Jay Z's relationship has been a tumultuous one and it was anybody's guess that they'd barely make it to their next wedding anniversary. Their marriage had reached such a critical stage that they were barely talking. As a result, the couple has to choose between saving their marriage and living seperately.

"They had been having problems for years," reveals a source close to the couple. "There was a constant commitment issue between them and in the end they were barely speaking. Beyoncé didn't fully trust Jay and it was hard for her to get past that."

Thus began, what couple's close friends recall, a period of introspection. "They went to a lot of counseling and have been working on their issues ever since. They had help to get them through it."

Now that Beyonce's latest album, "Lemonade," has released, she finally acknowledges her marital woes that have been chipping at their relationship for years and somehow ended up solving the mystery of what really happened inside that elevator between Solange, Beyonce's sister, and Jay Z in 2014. A full video that was later leaked showed how Solange had to be restrained physically as she punched and kicked Jay Z.

Back at that time, it was reported that it was Jay Z's unexplained closeness with Rachel Roy that was the root cause of the violence. Finally, to calm the media frenzy that happened as a result of that incident, Beyonce and Jay Z released a rare statement together saying, "...families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

This episode was all done and dusted with time until Beyonce came out with Lemonade. An insider says, "It's true, Rachel and Jay were friends and it wasn't seen as appropriate by people who knew them."
