Prince Dead at Age 57: What was the cause of Prince's Death? (UPDATE)

Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, passed away on Thursday after he was discovered unresponsive in an elevator at his studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. An autopsy will be conducted Friday at Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Ramsey.

No cause of death has been give yet according to Jason Kamerud, the chief deputy for the Carver Country Sheriff's office. However, TMZ is reporting that Prince was treated for a drug overdose days before his death. Autopsy result will take two weeks to come up with the result. The gossip site also reports Prince was found making several runs to the pharmacy close his home on Wednesday evening before Thursday morning death.

"As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr. Nelson's medical and social history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration," the Medical Examiners office said in a press release.

Prince had a medical emergency on April 15th that made his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he showed up at a concert the day after to make sure his fans he was healthy proudly showing them a new purple Yamaha piano and a guitar that was made for him in Europe

Prince publicist later told he was fine.

"He never intended to perform on Saturday. There was no microphone stand next to his piano," Bream wrote. "He just wanted to demonstrate that reports of his dire health were greatly exaggerated."

However, prior to his lastest appearance, Prince had called off two shows due to health issues.

Prince was widely regarded as the pioneer of Minneapolis sound. His music integrates a wide variety of styles, including funk, rock,R&B, soul, psychedelia, and pop. Between 1985 and 1992, he released eight albums, one per year, including the soundtrack for Tim Burton's "Batman." Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album "1999."
