The bugs in the Facebook app was responsible for eating up the iPhone user's battery even when the app was not in use. In response to this problem, Facebook has already released a fix that somewhat fixes the problem. In an official statement made by the Facebook engineering manager, Ari Grant, he revealed that the new updated version will improve the battery life for the iOS users. Many stories regarding how Facebook indulged in some background activity, compared to the actual screen time explained the possible causes of the battery drain, says Fortune

According to Grant, there are two reasons for this problem. One problem was that the videos played in the background even without any sound which kept the app active and ate up the phone's battery. "If you leave the Facebook app after watching a video, the audio session sometimes stays open as if the app was playing audio silently," Grant mentioned in the post. He also said that the Facebook app update from App Store will address the issue. The second reason was the CPU spin that is in the network code of the app. It can also be called an incessant feedback loop that never lets the app actually sleep, even when not being used, reported Top Tech News. "A CPU spin is like a child in a car asking, 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' with the question not resulting in any progress to reaching the destination," said Grant to explain the phenomenon.

He clarified that the location tracking feature of the app is not to be blamed. "We are committed to continuing to improve the battery usage of our app and you should see improvements in the version released today," he said, as per Stuff.
