For most people, while becoming blind is probably one of their worst nightmares, for a certain 30 year old North Carolina woman, it was a dream come true.

Ever since she was a little girl, Jewel Shuping apparently dreamed of being blind someday. Shuping although was born perfectly healthy with good eyesight and perfect blue eyes, soon began obsessing over becoming blind and losing her sight.

"When I was young, my mother would find me walking in the halls at night. When I was 3 or 4 years old," Shuping recollects. "By the time I was 6 I remember that thinking about being blind made me feel comfortable."

According to Daily Mail, after learning as a child that staring at the sun could lead to eye damage, Shuping would actually spend hours staring at the sun, watching sunspots and solar storms. As a teenager, Shuping got herself a white cane and dark glasses to move around, and by the time she was 20 she could read Braille fluently.

This strange behavior apparently stems from a rare medical condition known as Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID). It makes able-bodied people to intensely desire for a disability, they wish to be disabled. In Shuping's case it was a keen desire for blindness.

Finally taking matters into her own hands in 2006, Shuping claims that she had a psychologist pour drain cleaner in her eyes, and in due time gradually lost her eyesight and is now completely blind, reports People. She has never been happier.

"I really feel this is the way I was supposed to be born, that I should have been blind from birth," the 30-year-old says.
