Many infants are currently seen dwelling in an infectious illness which is known as the whooping cough. This malady, according to health investigators is received by the infant's close family members, particularly the siblings.

Tami Skoff, who is the supervisor of the research team, at the Centre's for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, claims that it is essential to distinguish and remain insightful regarding the diseases and where the babies are getting such infections. As per him, it is vital to know the main source so that they can be treated and remain under protection from various bacterial infections.

Whooping cough is considered dangerous for the newborns and even fatal, if overlooked. That is why vital remedies and cures are underway so that the babies can be sheltered. The first step contains examining for the right source, which in this case is identified to be the siblings.

According to the previous reports, mothers were believed to be the main source of Pertussis, a more formal name for the disease, but lately, alterations have been highlighted and a new research is conducted. The researchers incorporated 1,306 infants from 2006 to 2013 and scrutinized the main factors and determinants responsible for their infection.

When the sources were acknowledged, the results finally highlighted siblings to be the main source of infection in 36 % of the cases, while 21% pointed to mothers and 10% pointed towards the fathers. Therefore, the shifts and inclinations within the latest health arena proved mothers to be the preliminary source, which changed to the siblings.

The researchers also suggested for the process of "cocooning" which enables the infant to remain infection free as the people around them are vaccinated and immunized. This can keep the baby on the right track and healthy as ever. Other than that, some of the pregnant women are also encouraged to acquaint themselves with the inoculation process to make the baby robust.
