Is Apple planning to make the next iPhone thicker than iPhone 6? The thickness rumor is the latest to join the ever growing list of iPhone 7 rumors.

According to Mac Rumors, the new iPhone could be 0.2 mm fatter than iPhone 6 and could be as thick as the iPhone 6S Plus which measures 7.1 mm thick. Leaked schematics suggest the phone will have a home button and location of other buttons remain the same. The higher thickness is being attributed to Apple's plans to introduce Force Touch, which helps distinguish between a light tap and pressure touch.

Other reports also suggest that some Apple users have complained that their iPhone 6 devices are losing shape when in pockets, to the phone's sleekness. Extra thickness could prevent such deformations.

Mac World however thinks a thicker iPhone is unlikely as Apple's iPhone 6 design has been a revolution for the company. Also, the immense success of the sixth version may deter Apple if it simply seeks to release an 'S' update.

Given that most reports only suggest minor external design changes while pointing to major changes on the inside, including better RAM and camera, the new phone is more likely to be the iPhone 6S.

Apple is likely to make the announcement about its new iPhone in a couple of months.
