Latest Facebook workforce diversity report is disappointing as most of the white males continue to make up the vast majority.

According to the report, 55% employees in the U.S. are white with Asians making up the next significant chunk (36%). But African-Americans and Hispanics continue in very small numbers - just 2% and 4% respectively. This is a very slight improvement on last year when whites constituted 57 percent and Asians 34 percent.

According to Facebook's COO, Sheryl Sandberg, the company knows it has "a long way to go". Maxine Williams, Facebook's global head of diversity added that, "Having a diverse workforce is not only the right thing to do--it's the smart thing to do for our business. It's clear to all of us that we still aren't where we want to be. There's more work to do".

Furthermore, 84% of Facebook's technical employees are male, 51% white and 43% Asian while 3% are Hispanic and 1% African-American.

Also, 74% of senior-level management are male - an improvement on last year's 77 percent.

Notably, overall 32% of Facebook's workforce is female with only 16% of the company's tech jobs held by women.
