Research shows that normally, dieters get back 40 per cent of the weight they have lost in a year and would have got back every single pound that is lost after five years., according to dailymail.

However, those who weigh themselves everyday tend to retain the weight loss even after a year. Lead author Professor David Levitsky, from the University of Cornell, said: '"You just need a bathroom scale and an excel spreadsheet or even a piece of graph paper. The method forces you to be aware of the connection between your eating and your weight. It used to be taught that you shouldn't weigh yourself daily, and this is just the reverse."

Hence, this 10-second weight loss trick will help you to shed your weight, according to medicaldaily.

Strangely, this trick seems to impact men more than women. By watching their weight everyday, the impact of food on their weight is tracked continuously, experts feel. Researchers from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, also feel that regular weight watch influences other behaviours, such as eating less and going for walks.

After looking at 162 participants, experts observed that the students could lose one per cent of their weight through any technique. They were then asked to retain the weight loss even after 10 days, before they lost another one per cent and repeated the process.

Finally, they all lost 10 per cent of their body weight after they weighed themselves regularly, and found that the loss was regular.

But why did the process benefit men rather than women? Professor Levitsky isn't sure. He said, "We think the scale also acts as a priming mechanism, making you conscious of food and enabling you to make choices that are consistent with your weight. It seems to work better for men than women, for reasons we cannot figure out yet."

The study was published in the Journal of Obesity.
