Ehud Olmert, the man who led Israel, is now incarcerated.

Ehud Olmert, the former Prime minister of Israel, who was about to bring about peace agreements with the Palestinians, was tried at the Jerusalem District Court on charges of bribery. The District Court of Jerusalem awarded Olmert an imprisonment period of six years, which put an end to his political career in the country.

However, Ehud Olmert moved a plea to the Supreme Court of Israel. They were granted a forty five day stay.

Olmert was also given a suspended sentence of an additional eight months and fined the equivalent of €23,000.

Olmert was found to have received about €550,000 from Talansky during his political period, in the position of a Mayor, and additional amounts in cash during his term as a Cabinet minister. However, due to lack of legitimate evidence, the money was not found to be used for unlawful, private means.

The Court, even after a number of character opinions from people like Tony Blair, the former British Prime minister, and other, concluded that, "it is a black flag that hovers over his conduct", and awarded eight months prison for unlawfully accepting money from a US supporter.
