John Mayer showed that he is way over his ex, Taylor Swift. In a recent TV show, 7 Days of Genius special on MSNBC, the musician talks about the lyrics of one of his most controversial song, Paper Doll, rumored to be describing his past relationship with the Blank Space songstress and a retaliation of the songstress' 2010 Dear John song.

"I'm not in the business of telling people what the song is about. I never said anything about it," Mayer said. "And now I just go, 'Look, I can say the name Taylor Swift. She's an artist. I'm an artist. Let's just...everybody stop. Nobody's got an incurable cancer. We're rich people who get to live out our dreams. Let's just stop it...It's really about the longevity of all the work that goes together, and I'm just not interested in the things that won't last forever," John said via reports from Billboard.

As for Taylor Swift's to withdraw all her music from Spotify, the Gravity singer thinks that his super-famous ex has done a 'cool' job in standing up for her rights as an artist and for other artists. However, John is quick to add that Swift's name has contributed greatly in making the act very news worthy.

"Artists need the person with the loudest voice to speak for them ... There's like four people who get all the press," the country-rock singer said to anchor, Ronan Farrow as reported by Vulture.

"The only reason we're talking about Taylor Swift taking Spotify on is because she's Taylor Swift!"he added.

As mentioned by Daily Mail, the rocker also admits that he is not as popular as Taylor Swift or any famous pop stars like Kanye West, but according to him, he is fine with it.

"There are going to be times when I make music as popular or empirically valuable as [Swift's] in terms of making pop music that won't sell as many copies and I'm fine with that...Look, if I save a baby from a burning building and Kanye saves a baby from a burning building, there's more Google news hits on Kanye. I'm fine with it," he said.
