Why are So Many Parents Hiring Tutors for their Kids?

With the holidays nearly here, many parents are eagerly looking forward to their children's final report cards before the end of the calendar year. But for some, the excitement to see how much their children have learned will be tempered by concerns about areas where they may be falling short.

It is normal for students to struggle in school, and without facing intellectual challenges it is impossible for children to grow. But sometimes the healthy difficulties kids face with their school curriculum morph into major learning obstacles that can eventually jeopardize their academic and career future.

Education experts have known for a long time that the key to helping students overcome these difficulties is support: the hands-on help, personalized communication, and targeted feedback that schooling is supposed to deliver.

Unfortunately, in our era of overcrowded schools and under-resourced teachers, that help is getting harder to come by.

Tutoring: A Necessary Supplement

One of the reasons more and more parents are turning to tutoring is because tutoring is the most effective way to ensure that your kids get the help they need. When you hire a tutor for your kids you get hands-on help in whatever subject your child is struggling in, giving you an opportunity to offer targeted support.

Not everyone can afford to move to a better catchment area or enrol their kids in private school, and with a growing number of tutoring services offering in-home service with tutors who have experience working as teachers and a strong knowledge of the curriculum, tutoring is a convenient supplement to public education.

Tutors can focus on a range of different subjects, from math to sciences to languages, and because they are working on a one-on-one basis, they can come alongside struggling students as peers and help them overcome their particular challenges.

Tutoring Boosts More Than Just Grades

But tutoring isn't just about improving test scores and getting better grades. Tutoring can also play an essential role in helping students develop new learning strategies and better studying habits, equipping them to be more self-reliant in the future.

Tutoring has also been shown to boost student's confidence, which can have a major impact on even non-academic parts of their life.

Because tutors help children find the resources within themselves to face down the problems they encounter in school, they implicitly show kids that they are capable of doing more than they might think they are. This is one of the most vital lessons a child can learn, because it shows them that with enough hard work, no problem is insurmountable.

With education outcomes stagnating and public schools in a state of crisis, many parents are discovering that simply relying on the resources public education provides isn't always enough.

Because it gives children an opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment, because it encourages kids to develop their own problem-solving skills, and because it helps them build confidence in their own capacities, tutoring has become the number one go-to solution for parents who want to give their kids the best possible advantage in life.
