General Motors To Unveil Tesla Rival, An Electric Car That Can Go 200 Miles on Single Charge

General Motors is planning to unveil an electronic rival to Tesla, a concept electric vehicle that can go 200 miles on single charge. The car could be introduced in 2017, costing about $30,000.

The concept car, called Chevrolet Bolt, will be showed off at Detroit auto show. The company also has Chevrolet Volt electric car, on sale since 2010. Chevrolet Volt is getting a redesign this year along with some other capabilities.

Wall Street Journal, reporting the launch of the Chevrolet Bolt, said the car would carry a battery manufactured by South Korea's LG Chem Ltd. and will be "squarely" aimed at Tesla's forthcoming Model 3, a $35,000, debuting the same year.

GM, revealed its next-generation Chevrolet Volt plug-in car earlier this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Chevrolet Volt has sold around 70,000 units so far.

General Motors faces intense competition in the electric car market. Introduction of pure electric vehicles such as Nissan Motor's Leaf, that can run 84 miles on a single charge and more powerful Tesla's Model S sedan have overshadowed GM's efforts.
