Ron Perlman, who played the hero in Guillermo Del Toro's big screen adaptation of the Dark Horse comic "Hellboy," has said that a third instalment is unlikely to happen. It was 2004 when the comic book character made his on-screen debut with a sequel titled "The Golden Army" following in 2008.

The actor revealed in a new interview with Screen Rant to publicize his upcoming collaboration with "Hellboy" director Guillermo del Toro- the animated movie Trollhunters that he may be the only one who was making efforts for the possible "Hellboy 3," stating that he's still trying to make this long-awaited project happen.

Eventually the conversation turned to "Hellboy 3,"  where Perlman gave a concrete answer as to the status of the long awaited sequel. "We don't talk about that anymore. Because he's busy, and I'm busy. Maybe one day he's going to call and say, 'Hey, let's do it.' But for right now? We're happy discovering new worlds to conquer," Perlman said.

Director Guillermo del Toro teased in 2015 that "Hellboy 3" actually may happen if then project "Pacific Rim 2" is a hit at the box office. But, that was before he actually dropped out as director, with Steven DeKnight taking replacing him. Two studios, Columbia and then Universal, have already passed on making the next sequel.

After a TCA panel for his Amazon series "Hand of God," Perlman clarified to reporters why he is exerting such effort. "I don't want to do Hellboy 3. It's a pain in the ass to put that makeup on and take it off. But I feel we're obligated to finish the story. That's it. End of conversation," Perlman said. He then stated during an interview to Yahoo!Movies that it is very hard to convince a studio to produce the sequel.
