Manchester City on the verge of wrapping up deal for Dortmund Star
The Pep Guardiola revolution that is going to commence at Manchester City this summer and fans can expect a completely new set of players in blue jerseys in the 2016-17 season. One of the first players who might be making his way to the Etihad this summer is Borussia Dortmund's midfield powerhouse Ilkay Gundogan and according to latest reports, the Manchester City representatives have in fact agreed a fee with the German club for his transfer. It is necessary to point out that Gundogan has been pushing for a move from Dortmund for quite a while and had his wage demands been met by different clubs last summer, then he would not have been playing for Dortmund anymore.
Pep Guardiola is a long time admirer of the midfielder and according to the reports in The Sun, he has already spoken to the player regarding a move and it is only a matter of time before he is unveiled to the Etihad faithful. Manchester City's talismanic and highly influential midfielder Yaya Toure is most likely to part ways with the club in the summer as he looks for a new club amid concerns that Guardiola might not make him the leader of the midfield when he takes over in the summer. On the other hand, Guardiola does not seem so sure about the skills of Fernando in the same role and believes that the pair of Fernandinho and Gundogan could be the perfect midfield combination for the team.
Gundogan is a player who can not only win the ball in midfield but also has the ability to control and direct play from the heart of midfield without committing too many mistakes. Considering the way in which Pep Guardiola's teams play, it is not a surprise that Manchester City have decided to make a move for the German midfielder this summer. The German club want £32 million for the player but City representatives have tabled a bid of £28 million for the player and they expect that the player would be presented in the Blue shirt this summer.
