Schindler's List's Anniversary Revives Haunting Holocaust Memories

'Schindler's List' was the 1993 US epic historical period drama, considered to be one of the best films ever made, according to tpnn. Directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and scripted by Steven Zaillian, it is based on a book titled 'Schindler's Ark' by Thomas Keneally, an Australian writer.

The moving story is based on the life of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman, who saved more than a thousand Polish-Jewish refugees when the Holocaust broke out, by employing them in his factories.

The German entrepreneur and 1,200 Jews from Kraków he saved was recollected by Thomas Keneally and Holocaust survivor, Poldek Pfefferberg. It led to the 1982 novel, 'Schindler's Ark'.

The novel talks about how Schindler rescued his Jewish workers by giving them refuge in his Kraków plant, and then helping them to escape the gas chambers. They all survived the war, according to dailymail.

Astoundingly, one half-Black woman discovered that her grandfather had been a Nazi shown in the movie, when she read a diary of her mother, according to nypost. "The very moment when I found the book, it was as if, from within, that I realized something exceptional was happening," Teege tells The Post. "I was very, very silent. It was like giving birth: You go into yourself, and the outer world disappears."

She then wrote a book that was released in April, 2015: "My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: A Black Woman Discovers Her Family's Nazi Past".

Liam Neeson acted as Schindler, Ralph Fiennes as Schutzstaffel (SS) officer Amon Goeth, and Ben Kingsley as Schindler's Jewish accountant, Itzhak Stern.
