Supergirl Series Update: Cast and Costume For New CBS Show Revealed

Photos of the official Supergirl costume made for the TV series heroine Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El played by Melissa Benoist on CBS has been released on Friday and is now visible for everybody. The release date also coincides the first day of production of one of the most-anticipated Marvel TV show.

According to Variety, the costume is designed award-winner costume designer Colleen Atwood who is also behind the costumes of "The Flash" and "Arrow", DC Comics TV series aired in CW.

Aside from being a costume designer for TV series heroes, Atwood has also been nominated for Academy Awards for "Into the Woods," "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Alice in Wonderland," "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Chicago".

"The costume for Supergirl was designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for The Flash and Arrow and whose motion picture credits include Academy Awards for her work on Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago, as well as eight additional Oscar nominations for films such as Into the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow, among others," says the official DC Comics site via Polygon.

The classic S emblem and the maroon and blue color scheme that can be found in Superman's costume is still there. Supergirl's costume also has no sign of bare legs, or low cut tops that can be associated with sexual objects.

"I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today," Costume designer Colleen Atwood as mentioned in The Mary Sue.

Meanwhile, Variety revealed that series regulars will be in this 2015-2016 season including Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh, Alex Danvers. David Harewood will still play the supervillain Hank Henshaw.

Laura Benanti will be introduced in a very important episode as Kara's birth mother, Alura Zor-El.

Meanwhile, veteran Superman and Supergirl casts Dean Cain, Helen Slater roles are yet to be revealed.
