Uber had experienced a data breach last year that might have put personal details of more than 50,000 drivers at risk. It was only last week that news of Uber getting hacked broke.

Uber noted that they had been notified of the breach by an internal audit just a few months after the break occurred, which raises serious questions about why the company decided to wait until not to release the findings.

The individuals who were exposed with get a year membership to Experian to have their credit monitored since the breach included obtaining the names and driver's license numbers of at least 50,000 drivers, The Hoop News reported.

Uber is yet to say how the security vulnerability was first discovered because the matter is still under investigation.

The company, reportedly, immediately patched the security vulnerability and it has not received any reports of misuse of the data.

The database contained only the names and license numbers of approximately 50,000 former and current Uber drivers from various states, the company said. Of the affected drivers, approximately 21,000 are based in California, it said, according to LA Times.
