This house shows what it's really like to live on the edge: The Cliff House

Some people say they like to "live on the edge" but would they literally like to live on the edge? An Australian architecture firm created what might be one of the most scariest homes in the world.

Modscape created the Cliff House concept for a couple interested in commissioning a new home on land they own in southwest Victoria, Australia.

Inspired by the way "barnacles cling to the hull of a ship", the concept was designed to create an "absolute connection with the ocean". The design uses engineered steel pins that drive into the rock, thereby keeping the home attached to the cliff.

"The design is a theoretical response to clients who have approached us to explore design options for extreme parcels of coastal land in Australia, Modscape says on its website.

"A concept was developed for a modular home to hang off the side of a cliff as opposed to sitting on top of it.

"The home is visualised as a natural extension of the cliff face rather than an addition to the landscape, creating an absolute connection with the ocean."

The design includes three bedrooms, a living area, kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout.

Leading architect Maxwell Hutchinson told the BBC the unconventional design was a feasible one despite the threat of coastal erosion.
