Jackie Chan's son, 32-year old Jaycee Chan, made a public apology in a live broadcast news conference on Chinese state broadcaster CCTV after he was released from his six-month stay behind prison. The actor is said to be positive on marijuana and is allowing people to use the prohibited drug in his apartment when he was arrested in December.

According to the Daily Mail, the 32-year old public figure was 'ashamed' of his crime with Taiwanese actor Ko Kai and others engaged in the drug use.

In his native tongue, the entertainer further said that his release signals his renewed commitment for his music and film career and his family life particularly in spending more time with his mother.

"After this correction by the justice system, I have changed my outlook on life and my values. I made mistakes, I will remember this lesson, I won't commit mistakes again in the future. I want to apologise to everyone for my mistakes. I'm genuinely sorry," he said in his speech.

According to Reuters, Jaycee was first caught in August after his room was under a raid and police investigators found 100 grams of marijuana in his Beijing home. Aside from that he was tested positive for the said drug and is found corroborating with others.

On December, he received formal charges for 'sheltering others to take drugs' in his apartment.

A separate report from BBC said that Jaycee had fully cooperated with the police when the incident happened.

"I just gave them information and I confessed because I didn't know how to deal with the marijuana," he said.

BBC correspondent, Celia Hatton in Beijing said that Jaycee's public apology is said to be part of the campaign set by President Xi Jinping to use strong measures to stop drug use. It is meant to tell the public that nobody is immune to the said law.

Aside from being detained for being detained for six months, Chan paid a fine of 2,000 yuan ($322; £213).

Taiwanese actor Ko Kai, on the other hand, received a fourteen-day administrative detention for drug use.
