Facebook has launched yet another app for Android - Facebook Lite - aimed at low-spec Android devices and for areas with limited network connectivity.

Facebook Lite is less than 1MB. According to Facebook it is fast to install, quick to load and efficient with data. The company claims that the app has been designed for 2G networks and areas with limited network connectivity.

The Lite app appears to be related to Facebook's Internet.org project, which seeks to provide free access to Facebook and other basic Internet services in developing countries, according to ComputerWorld.

Facebook Lite - designed for developing and emerging markets - might not be available through Google Play in mature markets like UK.

The newly launched app has all the right features given its focus, such as seeing updates from friends, being able to share your own and built-in Facebook Messenger.

With the Lite app, Facebook might be testing people's responsiveness to a set of basic Facebook services without the ancillary ones. It may also help Facebook learn how it could further improve the functions of its Internet.org app, ComputerWorld added.

At the time of reporting, more than 700 users had reviewed the app and more than 600 users rated it as 5 star.

"Nice app so far. Please let us use stickers in comments. And also fix the pics shared by friends, so we can like directly in the news feed," a user who rated four stars commented.
