Whitney Houston's life is dramatized in a TV movie "Whitney" produced by Lifetime and with its premiere on Saturday. Amidst its good ratings with 4.5 million viewers, family members of the late singer criticized Lifetime and director Angela Bassett and further did not give blessings for the show, Rollingstone reports.

"If you watch this movie, watch it knowing that Lifetime is notorious for making bad biopics of deceased celebrities and brace yourself for the worst. You should not be surprised that someone decided to do a made for TV biopic. And, I might add, without the family's blessing and despite her mother's request to not do this movie. It happens every day," Pat Houston, Whitney's sister-in-law said in a statement written in the songstress official website.

Pat Houston further said that the show affected her daughter's relationship with her peers and teachers. She further attacked Angela Basset, Whitney Houston's Waiting to Exhale co-star, saying that the latter is using personal firsthand knowledge about the singer as they have been close friends to make the project legitimate and truthful.

"My daughter came home from high school yesterday and shared with me inquiries she had endured from her peers and teachers about the upcoming TV movie about her aunt Whitney. She was somewhat exasperated and said she did not get it - that a woman who claimed to be her aunt's friend would direct a movie that seems so unloving towards her Aunt, and how it could affect her cousin Krissi."

Instead of showing fond memories and achievements, the biopic, told in the point of view of Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown, is said to have exposed more sex scenes and her dark side as she gets addicted with cocaine and other prohibited drugs in her marriage with Bobby, the Daily Mail said.

The British tabloid has also taken some screen shots of the bed scenes of Whitney (Yaya DaCosta) and Arlen Escarpeta (Bobby Brown. The sex scenes are said to appear three times on the show's premiere.

Fans on Twitter of the late I Will Always Love You singer also expressed dismayed on the show's treatment and approach saying that it did not give justice to the singer's achievements.

"This @lifetimetv movie doesn't do Whitney Houston's legacy any justice, so far it's only sex & Cocaine #Whitney #WhitneyHoustonMovie', one fan wrote on the social media site."

"Another shocked viewer posted: 'Did Lifetime get clearance for these sex scenes?!?!? My goodness.... #whitney #liteporn - watching Whitney Houston (sic)'"

Whitney's first three episodes are said to have a second airing on Monday in the same time slot, according to the New York Daily News.
