French Muslim Stabbed 17 Times in An 'Islamophobic' Attack

Mohamed El Makouli in France was killed died near Avignon on Wednesday. The attacker rushed into his house in the village of Beaucet, shouting "I am your god, I am your Islam" and then stabbed him 17 times, the National Observatory Against Islamophobia said, according to Sputniknews.com

The 47-year-old father of one was killed before his 31-year-old wife, Nadia, who tried to save him. She got wounds to her hands before she ran with her child to call the cops.

Observatory president Abdallah Zekri called the attack "as a horrible Islamophobic attack" and confirmed that the victim's partner was clear that the man had shouted clear slogans regarding Islam, according to independent.co.

Avignon prosecutors have slapped a charge on the 28-year-old, accusing him of "murder, attempted murder and possession of drugs." He was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Montfavet.

A spokesman added that Islamophobic aspect will be probed when the authorities interview the boy who claims that he has heard voices. It is felt that he was suffering from schizophrenia as he claimed that he had heard voices and officials confirm that he was on the site, babbling and incoherent.

National Observatory Against Islamophobia head Abdallah Zekri, criticised the assault "as a horrible Islamophobic attack," just one week after the Charlie Hebdo killings in France.

French Justice Minister Christiane Taubira confirms that the government is thinking of making its laws against racism and anti-Semitism tighter.

Moreover, the government is trying to give powers to them to block Internet hate sites, just as sites child pornography are blocked, said Taubira.

For the past week, at least 50 anti-Muslim incidents including attacks on mosques in France have taken place, confirm the Central Council of Muslims.

In Dresden, Germany too, a 20-year-old Muslim from Eritrea, Khaled Idris Bahray, was killed on Tuesday. It is said that he left his home on Monday and did not return. His body was found early in the streets.
