It's becoming more popular than ever to stay in and eat meals at home rather than go out for romantic dinners at restaurants. This has led to a huge uptick in to-go orders for restaurants.

While this is great for your favorite Friday night take-out place, it's not ideal for your wallet. Plus, eating TV dinners in the living room isn't as romantic as going out and eating at a candlelit table.

The solution? Become creative with your home dinner dates! Here are five easy dinner date ideas that'll spruce up your homemade meals and kick up the romance.

1. Dress to the Nines

It's comfy to stay home and eat your homemade meals in pajamas, but it could be even more fun if you both dress up and make a formal night of it. Put on your nicest formal outfit, light a few candles, and have a fancy dinner.

For an evening like this, you must go with a delicious steak and some potatoes. You don't need a grill to do this either. Simply look up how to pan-fry a steak and make homemade mashed potatoes.

For dessert, support a local bakery and buy a key lime pie or cake.

2. Fondue Party

We all love fondue restaurants where you dip your fruits, vegetables, and bread into gooey, melty cheese. The best part of the night is the chocolate fondue with strawberries, bananas, and marshmallows.

You can order a Fondue pot online and make it the real deal, or you can just go the cheaper route and melt your chocolates in a double boiler on the stove.

All you need to do is fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil, then put a metal bowl over the pot so the bowl gets hot. Drop in some chocolates, let it melt, and get dipping.

3. Pizza and Movie Night

Ordering pizza is a simple solution when nobody wants to make a lot of effort to cook, but making homemade pizza is so much more fun.

Pre-made pizza crusts are inexpensive and you can customize your pizza to have all the toppings you want. You can even make your own dough using warm water, sugar, dry yeast, flour, kosher salt, and extra virgin olive oil.

After that, all you need to decide on is your sauce, cheese, and toppings. Once the pizzas come out of the oven, simply bring them over to the couch and enjoy a good movie.

4. Wine, Cheese, and Chocolate Tasting

Few things in life are better than a good wine and cheese pairing. Go to a local wine shop and pick out a good red, buy some fancy expensive cheese that you've never tried before, and order some chocolates from a local bakery.

Then, dress up in your favorite "cocktail" outfit and share some conversation over your exquisite evening meal.

5. Indoor Picnic

Outdoor picnics aren't completely out of the question, but if you live in a humid, rainy, or snowy area, it might get a bit uncomfortable.

But you might be just fine with a picnic spread on the living room floor? Plus, cleanup is as easy as walking to the kitchen and putting the dishes in the sink.

Make delicious sandwiches with deli meat and cheese, kettle-cooked chips, some fruit, and make some homemade lemonade. Spread out a blanket on the floor and settle in for a comfy evening with your partner.

Final Thoughts

You don't need to go out to have a great romantic dinner with your partner. Stay in tonight and use one of these date ideas for a great evening filled with laughs and conversation.
