If you've ever been in a car accident, you know how upsetting it can be. It can create anxiety and trauma for months or even years after the accident.

Even seemingly mild accidents can affect you for long after you leave the scene, and this doesn't even include the time required to work with a lawyer after you're involved in a car accident and to potentially negotiate an insurance settlement.

Imagine adding a fatality to that, which can sometimes be the case in car accidents. An estimated 1.35 million people die in crashes on roadways each year, and an average of 3,700 die on roadways each day.

It's a situation celebrities find themselves in too, and the following are some of the situations involving celebrities and car accidents that you may or may not know about.

Venus Williams

Tennis superstar Venus Williams was in an accident in 2017 that led to a fatality. The accident occurred in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Williams came to a stop as she was traveling north through an intersection. A car going west turned left in front of her, and she continued north. Then another car hit her vehicle.

Jerome Barson died two weeks after the crash in a hospital, and his family filed a wrongful death suit against Williams.

Williams was later questioned about the accident at Wimbledon, and she started to cry as she talked about the devastating impact it had on her.

Caitlyn Jenner

Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner reached a settlement with the family of someone who sustained serious injuries in a deadly accident in 2015.

The Wolf-Millesi family sued Caitlyn Jenner, citing her negligence in the crash, which ultimately killed one woman and injured others.

Jenner rear-ended her car, pushing it into oncoming traffic while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Paul Walker

Paul Walker was an actor perhaps best known for his role in the Fast and Furious franchise, but he ultimately lost his life in 2013 in a car accident.

Roger Rodas was behind the wheel of the Porsche involved in the accident.

Both died at the scene after they were estimated to be driving anywhere from 80 to 93 miles an hour in a 45-mile-an-hour zone in Valencia, California. They then hit a concrete pole and several trees, and it was believed their speed, as well as the old tires on the Porsche, contributed to the accident.

Walker's daughter sued the estate of Roads, winning a $10.1 million settlement.

Matthew Broderick

In 1987, after wrapping up filming on the movie Biloxi Blues, Broderick was on vacation in Ireland with Jennifer Grey. They rented a BMW with the plan of seeing Northern Ireland by car.

Eighty miles west of Belfast the two stars were in an accident that left two people dead

Broderick was 25 at the time, and he was driving when he pulled into a gas station.

After asking for directions from an off-duty police officer, the officer volunteered to show them where they needed to go, but they turned him down and went on their own route.

Eventually, it started raining and Broderick's car hit a Volvo being driven by a 28-year-old woman and her 63-year-old mother. Both were pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital.

Broderick broke his leg, and Grey sustained only minor bruising.

Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan was in a limo van driving on the New Jersey Turnpike, following one of Morgan's comedy shows. The van collided with a Walmart truck, leaving Morgan in a coma for two weeks. He also sustained broken ribs, a broken leg, and head injuries.

Three other passengers were also injured, and one man died.

Walmart reached a settlement with Morgan and the deceased man's children.

Following an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, it was determined that the Walmart truck driver hadn't slept for 28 hours before the crash.

The truck was doing 65 mph in a 45 mph zone before the crash, and the driver hadn't sufficiently slowed down even though there were warning signs of upcoming roadwork.

At the same time, it was also found through investigation of the crash that Morgan and the man who died in the crash weren't wearing seatbelts and should have been. The limo also should have had adjustable headrests, which could have lessened the severity of their injuries.

The Walmart truck driver entered a plea to second-degree vehicular homicide as well as four counts of third-degree aggravated assault.
