It is reported that "cheetahs" may be close to being extinct in the present times. There has been a significant decline of cheetahs in the past years.

A study by the Zoological Society of London headed by Sarah Durant indicates that there are only 7,100 "cheetahs" that are remaining. The decline of the population has been happening for the past 100 years. The majority of the remaining "cheetahs" on Earth can be found in Africa.

However, there are a few that can be found in Iran. Durant has indicated that the population of cheetahs has been recently in decline. It seems that there is no addition to the population of the animals lately. It also is indicated in a report that the reason for the decline of the cheetahs may be because of the decrease of their natural habitat. There are also those who are being attacked by the villagers. Aside from these reasons, the cheetah cubs are also being killed by some for fashion statement.

There are already more and more cheetahs being killed and so the population is declining most of the time. The decline of the population needs to be taken into serious account since cheetahs are already on the verge of being extinct.

Angola is trying to make a move in protecting the cheetahs so to preserve their species. Cheetahs need to have a wide area in order for them to live longer. These cats also need a better habitat for them to work around and they need to be taken care of.

Meanwhile, the cheetah cubs are being used for business. It takes up to $10,000 in the black market. It is big business for those that are trying to sell the cubs. It is reported that there has been an estimated of 1,200 cubs being trafficked from Africa for the past 10 years. An estimate of 85% of these cats being transported die along the way.
