Resident Evil 7 is set for a release in January 2017, but Capcom has decided to give their fans a little holiday preview and has released a free prologue for the game.

According to PC Gamer, the prologue is called "The Beginning Hour" and it takes place right before the main events in the game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Some people consider it a demo for the game, but it's also an extended prologue which is said to have multiple endings, hidden easter eggs, and multiple ways for a player to complete it.

Anyone expecting a dose of horror this holiday season is going to get it with the Resident Evil 7 demo. Though the prologue doesn't really feature any zombies or monster dogs, the game has a lot of other intense creep-out factors that are sure to get under a player's skin.

A lot of fans have noticed that Resident Evil 7 doesn't look like a lot of the other games before it, but they take this as a good sign that Capcom is trying to bring something new into the franchise. The series was considered to have peaked back in the release of Resident Evil 4 in 2005, and the franchise has since been releasing a slew of "slow" and "mediocre" games.

With the release of Resident Evil 7, it looks like the developers are planning to get back to the roots of Resident Evil (Biohazard being the Japanese Title), and at the same time, they are also trying to bring in new game elements to the series.

As of now, the prologue called "The Beginning Hour" is available on Steam, and what's more interesting, Steam is having a special sale on all of the titles under the Resident Evil banner. Fans of the zombie-shooting franchise are in for a treat this holiday season.

Resident Evil 7 hits shelves on Jan. 24, 2017.
