Dynasty Warriors is fighting its way back with Dynasty Warrior 9. Game Publisher Koei Tecmo recently announced Dynasty Warriors 9 as the latest title in the series at the annual Shueisha Jump Festa 2017 exposition in Japan.

Akihiro Suzuki, executive official from Koei Tecmo, describes Dynasty Warriors 9 as a "rebirth" for the series as it will also be the celebrating its 15th anniversary. With its rebirth comes many challenges. One of which is the ambitious attempt to create one big in-game map of the whole Chinese continent. China's land is massive, so the areas where players can battle are limited. However, the game developers are creating places like Hulao Pass and Zhongyuan in detail. Towns where players can freely enter and exit will be available. The map will also have differences in elevation.

All of the 83 playable characters from Dynasty Warriors 8 will be returning. Players will also be delighted with a set of new fighters in the selection, especially with the comedic Zhou Cang, a character from the historical Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The green clad character wears a Robin Hood style hat while holding an oversized weapon called the "Dai Satsu Katana".

Most importantly, Dynasty Warriors 9 will be played in an open world format for the very first time, joining the bandwagon alongside Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto V. The gaming platform is currently unknown, but the game was introduced by the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia, Atsushi Morita. The possibility of the gaming running on PlayStation 4 is very high.

A very short Dynasty Warriors teaser trailer featuring concept art is already available for viewing. It is numbered as '8' in the trailer as all English versions are a number ahead of their Japanese counterparts. This is due to the English localization of a spin-off game into Dynasty Warriors 2 in the previous years.
