Mixed feedback out of 10,000 reviews given by hopeful fans was enough to send Nintendo's shares tumbling. "Super Mario Run," one of the most anticipated games this Christmas, only got an average of 2.5 stars out of five stars. Deeply disappointed were fans who had failed betrayed after the company had neglected its gaming core of customers to focus on the Wii U console. The failure of that project also deals Nintendo another setback, because it had hoped taht the Wii U would be the next best thing.

The tepid reviews greeting "Super Mario Run" may also mean they have to look elsewhere for that champion game or product to revive its flailing fortunes.

According to CNET, the reviews focused on the British version of the game that was available on the App store. The criticism was not levied on the gameplay per se but on the price and the functionality. Many gamers felt that $9.99 was too high a price for the mobile run of the famous cartoon plumber. Another complaint was the game's need for a data connection in order to run.

TechTimes gives more positive feedback from expert gamers and influencers. IGN's Jose Otero gives it a high 8 out of 10 stars because of the seamless way it translates the game into the mobile platform. However, that's where the shouting stops. Otero says there are no new villains, scenarios, rewards, or anything else that can add spice to a familiar gameplay. He also said that the static state of the background becomes clear and visible once the gamer stops moving.

Peter Brown of Gamespot is more than happy with the design. He also says that the run up the higher levels is exciting enough to make the gamer want to come back. But he repeats what the rest of the 10,000 reviews have said: the reliance on data and the $9.99 price tag you would have to cough up if you want to play the full game.

If Nintendo is taking all this feedback to heart, it still has another chance at redemption. The Android version for the "Super Mario Run" will come out in the early part of 2017.
