Super Mario Run is currently crowned the most downloaded app on the App Store. In the first 24 hours, Nintendo's Super Mario Run surpassed Pokémon GO game in terms of day one downloads. According to data from Apptopia, Super Mario Run got 2,850,000 downloads in the App Store while Pokémon Go only got 900,000 downloads on the first day. App Annie disputes this by saying Super Mario Run saw 3.5 million downloads within the US in just 14 hours and 10 million total downloads worldwide on its debut.

"A new kind of Mario game that you can play with one hand," the Super Mario Run game describes itself on the iTunes site. "In this game, Mario constantly moves forward through the courses while you use a variety of jumps to navigate. Mario will behave differently depending on the timing of your taps, so it's up to you to show off particularly smooth moves, gather coins, and reach the goal."

Super Mario Run was announced at Apple's most recent iPhone event and the game received intense promotion in the App Store. Super Mario Run is only available for the Apple iOS, but it's expected to debut on Android devices sometime next year.

The Super Mario Run downloads show that Nintendo's tactic is working. Numerous players however are upset with the game's inaccessible content. While downloading the game is free, Nintendo gains revenue from Mario through a one-time purchase worth of $9.99 which can unlock all the levels for players.

Another criticism was directed towards the Super Mario Run app requirement of constant internet connection to play, similar to Pokémon Go. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto reasoned that it can prevent software piracy this way. This doesn't prevent obvious knock-off apps like Super Plumber Run, Mario Run Jumper, and Super Mario World from surfacing on Google Play. Users should take caution since fake mobile apps tend to be malware in hiding.
