Jimmy Kimmel has just been announced to be the host of the 2017 Oscars. And the host has just revealed that he was offered $15,000 to host the event.

According to USA Today, Kimmel shared the information at the KROQ's Kevin $ Bean morning show on Wednesday. Considering the 89th Academy Awards is a huge event, Kimmel said that the producers of the event had to pay him something because it is illegal not to pay him anything, since the offer was not as high as expected by the people. Kimmel also said on the show that he does not know if he was allowed to reveal how much he was offered, but said that he was not told it's prohibited.

Billy Crystal and Chris Rock previously hosted the Oscars and when Kimmel was asked if his offer was near theirs, the host just said that it was what he was offered and was told about. Kimmel also joked and said he wonders if he will get a raise if he will host the event more than once.

Meanwhile, Kimmel also revealed that the producers of the 2017 Oscars have already offered 14 people the job but everyone turned them down until they told him about the offer. The host said that he was surprised when he was offered the job, E! News reports.

The entertainment news site also reports that Academy President Cheryl Boone said in an interview that Jimmy Kimmel has the qualities of a great host. She also said that Kimmel knows who he is, his audience, and said that she is glad that Kimmel accepted the offer to host the Oscars.

Kimmel has announced that he will host the 2017 Oscars earlier this month, and as witty as he is, said that he has to get himself a tuxedo for the show or just wear shorts at the event, according to US Weekly.

The 89th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre on February 26 next year, and will be aired live on ABC.
