Hugh Jackman took a pay cut to help convince 20th Century Fox to keep his final wolverine film Logan as an R-rated movie. Big thanks to the film's lead actor for making sure that extra violence and vulgarity hits the big screen.

There were speculations that the next Wolverine movie could be rated R. It would make sense. Like Deadpool, Wolverine is an outrageously violent character who attract similarly violent enemies. He's tortured soul who's also been physically tortured many times. To really tell his story properly. And that's exactly what the new film, Logan, has received.

The forthcoming superhero movie's director James Mangold revealed the Hollywood star chose to get a reduced salary to keep the film, Logan, the third and final franchise of the Wolverine solo trilogy at the rating. According to Ain't It Cool's Eric Vespe, Mangold admitted the actor took a pay cut to make this happen.

R-rated films tend to earn less at the box office because only older viewers can buy tickets as the "R" stands for "Restricted", which means anyone under 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian with them.

Making an R-rated movie is often risky. It is limiting sales to a smaller population while losing profit from those who aren't able to purchase a ticket. The reason why many large blockbusters try to avoid the rating, especially since they have so much money invested. But sometimes a fil needs an R-rating to tell its story appropriately.

Fox's concerns came after Deadpool became the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time and the best grossing X-men movie. Logan is the 10th motion picture in the X-men series and is slated for release in March 2017.
